🍎 DAYCARE • PRESCHOOL • EARLY LEARNING
Busy daycare and preschool teams need activities that are warm, manageable and easy to repeat. This Little Mike the Ant™ 20-minute plan combines an original story, simple language practice and a kindness conversation.
Make the Most of 20 Minutes
0–3 minutes: welcome children and introduce “being a helpful friend.”
3–8 minutes: read Little Mike and the Helpful Leaf aloud.
8–12 minutes: ask short questions: Who needed help? What did Little Mike do? How did the friends feel?
12–15 minutes: say and clap vocabulary words, using gestures or pictures.
15–20 minutes: invite a kindness idea and a quick drawing or spoken retelling.
Adaptations for Young Learners
Use shorter questions, gestures, visual supports and movement breaks for younger children or those who need them. Older readers can point to evidence or create a beginning, middle and end. Participation should be welcoming, not graded.
More Than a One-Day Activity
Repeat the circle weekly with a fresh “kindness action” such as helping tidy a shared space or inviting someone to play. Invite parents to continue a similar conversation at home, without asking for child personal data.
